Exclusive: Pep Guardiola ‘likely to sign’ new Man City deal

Pep Guardiola will likely sign a new deal with Man City soon after rebuffing interest from the England national team, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the FA sounded the 53-year-old out before appointing Thomas Tuchel but the Spaniard rejected their interest and is now mulling over a new 12-month deal with Man City.

It’s understood that Guardiola may be interested in international management in the future, but for now, luring him away from the Etihad would have been far too expensive for the FA.

If he were to transition into international management, the only two positions he would likely consider are with his native Spain or his adopted home, England.

Guardiola’s current deal is due to expire at the end of the season as the threat of Man City’s 115 charges continues to cast a shadow over the club.

Potential expulsion from the Premier League and the departure of long-time ally and Man City Sporting Director Txiki Begiristain at the end of the campaign will likely be at the forefront of his thinking.

Pep Guardiola wants 10 years at Man City

If the legendary coach signs a new deal with the club, it will mark a decade in charge of the reigning Premier League champions.

With six Premier League titles, four League Cups, two FA Cups, and a Champions League to his name, his potential departure would be a significant loss, particularly considering the current circumstances surrounding the club.

On the pitch, things are going about as well as they could, with City sitting in second, one point behind leaders Liverpool on 17.

With the second international break of the season over, City will travel to bottom-placed Wolves for Premier League matchday eight in what is expected to be a routine win.
