Exclusive: Phillips claims Rangers target has already chosen next club after big development
Kevin Phillips has claimed he is “pretty sure” that Lyle Taylor has a move lined up this summer with Rangers known admirers of the striker.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, the former England international sympathised with the 30-year-old after Lee Bowyer revealed the player’s stance on returning to action later this month.
The striker has decided he will not play for Charlton if the Championship restarts from 20 June due to fears he will suffer an injury that could scupper a life-changing move this summer.
The Gers are interested in Taylor and could be set to battle it out with a host of Championship sides for the English forward’s signature this month.
Phillips suggests a move to Ibrox would bring Taylor a healthy pay rise.
“I was listening to Lee Bowyer speak at length about it on Sky,” he told Football Insider.
“Obviously he does not want to play for Charlton now and he could potentially have something lined up already and I am pretty sure he has. Whether that is in Scotland, who knows.
“As an ex-player I get both sides. Bowyer understands but he is naturally disappointed because you start the season with a squad and you want to finish all 46 games with your full squad. But we never envisaged anything like this.
“If Taylor has a big move lined up, it could be the one that secures his family’s future. The money will be significantly more than what he is on now.
“I never like to see players refuse to play football but I get his side of the story. A very frustrating time for both parties.”
Football Insider revealed that his teammates are “livid” with his decision as they all have relegation clauses in their contracts.
Taylor has scored 11 goals in 22 Championship appearances this term.
In other Rangers news, it can be REVEALED that 29yo has opened door on move to Ibrox this summer.
