Exclusive: Plymouth Argyle agree Wes Harding deal after bid accepted

Plymouth Argyle have agreed a deal to sign Millwall right-back Wes Harding, sources have told Football Insider.

The League One outfit have been battling the likes of Hibernian and Wigan Athletic for the 29-year-old’s signature, and they now look set to get the move over the line before the 7pm deadline on Monday.

Plymouth are trying to fend off relegation in League One, and Harding is now about to become their second addition of the winter window, after Ronan Curtis had previously arrived from Port Vale.

Tom Cleverley and Co. have had to work hard to win the race for Harding, but they now appear to have the Millwall man firmly within their grasp in the final hours of the window.

Wes Harding to aid Plymouth survival fight

Football Insider revealed on Sunday that Plymouth were leading the race for Harding, and they are now within touching distance of completing the deal.

The defender has been on the fringes of Alex Neil’s squad at The Den so far this season, as he has started just twice in the Championship since the beginning of the campaign.

He is now set to join a Plymouth side who are desperately trying to fight their way up the League One table and away from the bottom four.

Cleverley’s men are just six points clear of Burton Albion in the final relegation spot at the moment, as a whole host of clubs are nervously looking over their shoulders in the third tier.

The Pilgrims had strung together a six-match unbeaten run of late that has seen them pull clear of the dreaded dotted line, but that was brought to a close by a 2-1 defeat away at Stockport County on Saturday.

Cleverley will hope that Harding’s imminent arrival can reinvigorate his group and provide another boost to their survival hopes.

Millwall complete double signing ahead of deadline day

Football Insider revealed on Sunday that Millwall had won the race to sign Tommy Watson on loan from Brighton until the end of the season, and his arrival was confirmed as part of a double deal that was sealed ahead of deadline day.

The former Sunderland starlet arrived alongside Black Cats goalkeeper Anthony Patterson, who has fallen out of favour at the Stadium of Light following their promotion to the Premier League.

The Lions fought off competition from elsewhere for the top-flight duo until the end of the season, and their arrivals provide a major boost to Millwall’s promotion aspirations.

Neil’s men are firmly in the hunt for a play-off spot in the Championship at the moment, and face a potentially crucial clash with Wrexham on Saturday.
