Exclusive: Plymouth Argyle make approach to sign Sam Tickle
Plymouth Argyle and another unnamed Championship club have made approaches for Wigan goalkeeper Sam Tickle, sources have told Football Insider.
Wayne Rooney’s side have made a move for Tickle as they target a replacement for Michael Cooper following his move to Sheffield United.
The 22-year-old was an ever-present for Wigan last season, with his 14 clean sheets contributing to a strong campaign for Shaun Maloney’s side.
Conor Hazard has been starting in goal for Plymouth in what has been a mixed start to the season for the League One club.
Hazard conceded four goals on the season’s opening day but followed it up with a clean sheet in the EFL Cup.
Rooney is now looking to bring in a goalkeeper to strengthen his options in that position, with Tickle being his number one target.
Plymouth Argyle will hope to secure the promising Sam Tickle
Tickle has been impressive since joining Wigan in 2021 and even represented England’s Under-21s team this year.
He has played every minute of Wigan’s opening three matches across all competitions but is yet to register a clean sheet.
The goalkeeper is under contract at Wigan until 2028, putting the Latics in a strong negotiating position.

Tickle played every single game of Wigan’s League One campaign last season, keeping 15 clean sheets in 46 games.
Plymouth will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to face Queens Park Rangers as Rooney’s team looks to win their first league game of the new campaign.
