Exclusive: Police react as Everton vs Liverpool incident caught on camera
Liverpool and Everton players clashing after the final whistle is likely to see a police respond after a missile was thrown from the stands, Keith Hackett has said.
The former PGMOL chief and ex-FIFA official exclusively told Football Insider that surveillance cameras at Goodison Park will “pick up the person” responsible for throwing a bottle during the heated aftermath of the derby.
Everton secured a dramatic point against Liverpool thanks to James Tarkowski’s last-minute volley. Tarkowksi had previously been criticised by Everton supporters for his poor FA Cup performance against Bournemouth, but turned to hero with his crucial goal in the derby.
However, tensions boiled over when Curtis Jones and Abdoulaye Doucoure clashed after the match, sparking an incident where a fan became involved by throwing a bottle at the players.
Liverpool and Everton draw in final Goodison Park Merseyside derby
The Toffees took an early lead against their rivals, with Beto scoring a controversial Everton goal that Hackett deemed “wrong” due to a questionable free-kick decision in the build-up. They were ahead within 11 minutes but conceded shortly after, as Alexis Mac Allister equalised for Liverpool.
Everton fans criticised Abdoulaye Doucoure for losing possession in the lead-up to the goal, which allowed Liverpool to capitalise.
Mohamed Salah later put Liverpool in front, and it seemed Arne Slot’s side would leave with all three points until Tarkowski struck a dramatic late goal to rescue a draw.

Tensions flared after the final whistle when Doucoure celebrated in front of Liverpool’s away fans, sparking a furious reaction from Jones. The English midfielder grabbed Doucoure, leading to a mass confrontation involving multiple players and a bottle being thrown from the stands.
Referee Oliver issued red cards to both players, as well as sending off Slot in the chaotic aftermath of the final Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.
Hackett responded to the supporter who threw the bottle and exclusively told Football Insider:
“There was a bottle thrown and that will be on camera. The surveillance cameras at Goodison will pick up the person that threw the bottle so he should expect a visit from the police.”
