Exclusive: PSV turn attention to signing Sheffield United’s Gus Hamer
PSV Eindhoven are plotting a move for Sheffield United attacker Gus Hamer, sources have told Football Insider.
The 28-year-old was crowned the Championship Player of the Season for 2024/25, notching 10 goals and eight assists in 44 Championship appearances, and is now attracting interest from across Europe.
Hamer has long been linked with a switch to Leeds United, with Daniel Farke’s side now in the Premier League, but it has been revealed that Dutch side PSV are the latest club to target his signature.
Sheffield United condemned to another Championship campaign
Despite Hamer’s output, the Blades are stuck in the Championship for another season after losing out on automatic promotion to Leeds and Burnley, before then losing to Sunderland in the play-off final.
Sheffield United suffered a blow to Swansea City with the missed signing of Ethan Galbraith, but with Ruben Selles now in charge, the Blades can begin to rebuild their squad ahead of next season.
Football Insider understands that United have made a move to sign Mark Kosznovzky from MTK Budapest, and the 23-year-old midfielder may be seen as a replacement for Hamer.
No player in the squad registered more goal contributions than the Dutchman (16) in the Championship last season, with Tom Cannon and Tyrese Campbell coming the closest with 12 and 11, respectively.

Gus Hamer attracts interest after brilliant 2024/25 campaign
Since arriving at Bramall Lane on a £15million deal from Coventry City in 2023 [The Athletic], he has quickly become the club’s most important player, even impressing in the Premier League.
The Blades struggled in the top tier of English football in 2023/24, but despite that, the 28-year-old notched four goals and six assists in 36 games, proving himself at the top level.
Leeds were closing in on a deal for the playmaker last summer, and while the star remained at Bramall Lane last term, many supporters at Elland Road hold hope of a deal this time around.
However, with PSV now in the mix after beating Ajax to the Eredivisie title last season, and the promise of Champions League football, the lure back to the Netherlands could be too much.
