Ibrox Exclusive: Pundit bouncing over Celtic v Rangers clash after Edouard update

Alan Hutton admits he is buzzing over a “mouth-watering” Glasgow derby after Celtic and Rangers managed to keep their top players during the transfer window.

The former Gers defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, believes both sides are looking well-matched following Monday’s deadline.

Despite heavy interest from England and abroad, Celtic kept of the likes of Olivier Ntcham and Odsonne Edouard at Parkhead, while Alfredo Morelos has remained at Ibrox.

Lennon confessed to BBC Sport that all the speculation had affected the performances of Edouard after a series of disappointing performances.

Hutton believes that with the window now closed, both Celtic and Rangers stars will be able to refocus and deliver in the first derby day of the season.

Hutton told Football Insider: “It’s probably the first time in a good few seasons that both squads have been very strong, with strength in depth and just strong in general.

“All their top players, they have managed to keep – whether it be Edouard, Morelos, Ntcham, all these sort of players, so it’s really setting it up for a mouth-watering Old Firm game straight after the international break.

“I think Neil Lennon’s right, pretty much the same as Morelos, their heads have been turned. I don’t think Edouard or Morelos have been anywhere near the levels they’ve shown in previous games or previous seasons.

“As a manager you’re looking at it and going: ‘Right, you can’t go anywhere now, give me everything, everything you’ve got for the season ahead and then we’ll take it from there.’ You don’t want this rearing its ugly head again in January.”

Edouard has scored four goals in six Premiership appearances this season, while Morelos has netted three times in the league.

In other Celtic news, Football Insider pundit has been fretting over a “huge” injury blow against Rangers.
