Kevin Phillips has suggested that Jose Mourinho may drop Giovani Lo Celso from the Tottenham team tomorrow to make way for Moussa Sissoko.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-England international admitted that he has been impressed by the impact of the Argentina international but also suggested that Sissoko has been a standout presence in recent times.
The 30-year-old has missed a large portion of the campaign with a knee injury, but is now fully fit and expected to feature in Spurs’ Premier League run-in.
And Phillips has claimed that he could come in for Lo Celso, who Mourinho claimed at his media conference this afternoon is doubtful for the clash and will need a late fitness test.
Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “I think it’s a real interesting one.
“Lo Celso, I like him, he’s a good player. Could you get them both in the side – Sissoko and Lo Celso? Possibly.
“I think Sissoko, certainly from a supporter’s point of view, has been one of their top players for the last 12 to 18 months now, he’s come from nowhere. I expect him to come back into that side, maybe at the cost of Lo Celso.
“They’ve both got great qualities. It’s a great headache to have from Mourinho’s point of view.”
Lo Celso has made 19 Premier League appearances during his debut campaign in England, and hasn’t missed out on a game since the 2-0 defeat to Chelsea on December 22nd.
For his part, Sissoko has been sidelined since New Year’s Day after requiring surgery following a collision with Southampton’s James Ward-Prowse in a 1-0 loss.
