Exclusive: Pundit makes Mourinho claim as Tottenham reportedly plot PL signing
Kevin Phillips has claimed that Todd Cantwell and Tottenham may not be the ideal fit given the playing style of Jose Mourinho.
The former Sunderland striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, tipped the 21-year-old to join a Premier League side “that likes to play football” rather than Spurs.
Cantwell has been a star performer for Norwich this season, registering 6 goals in 24 appearances in a side that has struggled to bottom of the Premier League.
As reported by The Athletic, the attacking midfielder is a target for a host of Premier League clubs including Liverpool, Spurs and Manchester United.
When asked if the England under-21 international would fit in at Spurs, Phillips told Football Insider, “It depends on who could be leaving in the summer.
“He is a good attacking player who chips in with goals and creates goals. If you are to sign a player like that you are not going to go after him without intentions of getting involved regularly.

“I could see Cantwell performing in the Premier League in a side that likes to play football. Under Pochettino Tottenham were that, under Mourinho, they are more direct.
“Tottenham will not be the only team linked with him over the rest of the season and the summer. He has shown this season that he can play at a higher level.”
Cantwell is likely to command a fee in the region of £30million but with the Canaries looking destined for the drop teams may want that lowered.
Jose Mourinho has a wealth of options in the attacking department with Harry Kane, Son Heung-min, Lucas Moura, Giovani Lo Celso, Erik Lamela and Steven Bergwijn all to note.
In other Tottenham news, Kevin Phillips has told Football Insider that latest update is a “huge blow” for Mourinho.
