Alan Hutton has suggested that Celtic are on the verge of signing a “really high quality” goalkeeper after Neil Lennon’s transfer update.
The former Rangers and Scotland full-back, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, suggests that the Bhoys will not want to take a risk between the sticks and that the prospective new addition will be able to slot seamlessly into the side.
As quoted by the Scottish Sun, Hoops boss Lennon has revealed he is hopeful of signing a new shot-stopper this week after talks with Fraser Forster went cold on the player’s end.
Monday’s print edition of the Scottish Daily Mail report that the Hoops are set to sign an unnamed keeper on loan for next season.
Hutton believes that the “mystery” shot-stopper could be a top-quality edition who will not need much time to bed in at Parkhead.
Hutton told Football Insider: “They’re talking about a mystery signing with this goalkeeper – the only thing I can think is if they bring this mystery goalkeeper in and he’s of he’s really high quality, they can maybe get away with it.
“He might have the experience of playing in all these different places and he can take quite easily to it. If it’s an unknown, then it’s a risk from Celtic.”
Scott Bain is Celtic’s one and only senior shot-stopper at present, with last season’s number one Forster back at Southampton after his loan spell.
The Hoops kick off the 2020/21 season with a home tie against Hamilton on August 2nd.
