Liverpool should hand Virgil van Dijk and Alisson new contracts at Anfield, according to Paul Robinson.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, the former Spurs and Leeds United goalkeeper hailed the “outstanding” duo for transforming Jurgen Klopp’s defence in recent years.
Fabrizio Romano revealed on his ‘Here We Go’ podcast last week that the club are imminently set to extend Virgil van Dijk’s contract by five years.
The centre-half still has two and a half years left on his current deal at Anfield having penned a five-year agreement upon his arrival from Southampton in 2018.
Virgil van Dijk has made 130 appearances in total for the Reds, playing an integral role in a side that has won the Champions League and Premier League over the past 18 months.
When asked by Football Insider if the club were making the right moveing tying the Dutchman down to a new deal early, Robinson said: “It is a no brainer.
“I would give Alisson and Virgil van Dijk as long a contract as they want. I would bring them into the office, sit them down and say, ‘How long do you want to stay?’
“They have had such an impact on that team and they are crucial to everything they do.
“Liverpool have been fantastic going forward for four or five seasons but since Virgil van Dijk and Alisson have come in the defence has been outstanding. They have brought the defence on.
“Joe Gomez, Robertson, Alexander-Arnold and even Lovren when he was there all got better as a result of Virgil van Dijk.”
