Exclusive: QPR close in on deal to sign Brazil sensation Esquerdinha

QPR are closing in on a deal to sign Fluminense left-back Joao Henrique – better known as Esquerdinha, sources have told Football Insider.

The teenager, 18, has impressed in his native Brazil and sources say the R’s are poised to complete his signing.

Esquerdinha has already made three senior appearances for Fluminense in the 2025 season after making his breakthrough last year.

The left-back, who has been linked with Barcelona and Premier League sides, has now played 361 minutes of senior action across 12 games.

He has played three times for Fluminense in the Copa Libertadores, South America’s premier club competition.

The defender, whose name translates to ‘Little Left’, started playing for his boyhood club at the age of nine and is under contract until December 2026.

Esquerdinha is a nine-cap Brazil Under-17 international and played for his country at the Under-17 World Cup in 2023.

QPR poised to complete Esquerdinha signing after Barcelona links

The left-footer could become the latest promising youngster to join the ranks at Loftus Road.

Football Insider revealed last week (22 January) that QPR are in advanced talks to sign 18-year-old Aberdeen sensation Timothy Akindileni.

The R’s are next in action against Millwall on Saturday (1 February) after losing against Sheffield Wednesday last time out.
