Exclusive: Rangers 27-yr-old tipped by Bent to quit in summer after contract reveal
Darren Bent has suggested that Rangers defender Jon Flanagan needs to leave Ibrox this summer for the good of his career.
The former Aston Villa and England striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Jason Jones, admits he respects players trying to fight for their futures but insists there comes a time where a move away is necessary.
The 27-year-old’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season and admitted back in January that he would love to extend his stay at Ibrox beyond the summer.
However, after seeing the full-back struggle for game time this season, Bent thinks it might be time for a fresh start.
Bent told Football Insider: “I always like to see players persevere and get their chance rather than get out but there also gets to a point where you’ve got to show a bit of ambition.
“If things aren’t going well, I’m all for giving it a good go, giving it a fight but if it looks like it’s just not going to happen for you then I’m all for going somewhere else to try and make it happen.

“This summer he needs to assess it, see where he’s at, see what’s going on and if it still doesn’t look like it’s going to happen for him then look to move elsewhere.”
Flanagan, who penned a two-year deal when he joined the Gers back in 2018, has played just 10 times across all competitions this season.
He has found himself behind Borna Barisic and James Tavernier in the pecking order, his last Premiership appearance coming back in January.
