Exclusive: Rangers have agreed ‘£20m+’ deal
Rangers will receive an uplift on their current kit manufacturer deal with Castore after reportedly agreeing terms with Umbro for next season.
That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider the new Ibrox chiefs could potentially get a better deal out of the Manchester-based firm.
Rangers signed a five-year deal with Castore in 2020, with that agreement believed to be worth around £20million.
The Herald reported on 23 December the Scottish giants are set to return to Umbro next season after their deal with Castore expires at the end of this campaign.
It comes after Fraser Thornton and Patrick Stewart have recently been appointed as chairman and CEO at Ibrox.
Rangers chiefs could agree improved sponsor deal
Borson insisted Rangers wouldn’t be changing kit suppliers if they weren’t receiving an uplift on their current deal.
He told Football Insider: “You have got to be slightly cautious in terms of these deals because they all look slightly different in terms of the way they are structured.
“Some of them are merchandising deals and are deals where you effectively take on the full retailing of all your kit stuff, and you are effectively buying the stock from the manufacturer.
“It could be shared a different way or there could be minimum guarantees and all sorts of different transactions.
“There is a good explanation of how the Newcastle deal worked in a recent competitions appeal tribunal case between Sports Direct and Newcastle, where you can read about some of the details of their deal.
“But it’s likely to be an uplift for Rangers, just because if they are moving, they are likely to have got a better deal from Umbro versus Castore.

“Maybe the expiring of that deal means the new management team at Rangers can have a look at it and get a better deal out of Umbro.
“You would expect the deal to be better than the last deal, but it’s very hard when you are reading about these deals in the press to really understand how they actually work because they are all so different.”
