Exclusive: Rangers make move to sign Conor Coady from Leicester City

Rangers have enquired to Leicester City about signing Connor Coady, sources have told Football Insider.

Coady has a year left on his current deal but would have to take a wage cut if he stayed with the Foxes, after they were relegated from the Premier League.

The Glasgow have made initial contact with Leicester, as they aim to strengthen their defensive ranks with the addition of the 32-year-old.

Last season, the centre-back made 19 league starts as well as three appearances from the bench for Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side, as they finished 18th in the top-flight with just 25 points to their name.

Russell Martin sets sights on signing ex-Wolves and Everton player

It’s been all change at Ibrox, after the 49ers enterprises completed their takeover of the Glasgow club, ending months of speculation.

Six days later (5 June), Russell Martin was announced as the new Rangers manager on a three-year deal, and the 39-year-old has already started scouring the English market to improve his new squad.

The Gers conceded 15 more goals than arch-rivals Celtic last season, so Coady would be a much-needed addition to the ranks.

After coming through the Liverpool academy, the centre-back has had spells at Huddersfield and Everton, either side of a seven-year stint at Wolves, so would bring a wealth of experience to Martin’s side.

Rangers to make ‘big funds’ available to Martin

Football Insider exclusively revealed last week (2 June) that the new Rangers owners are expected to make big funds available this summer.

49ers Enterprises and Andrew Cavenagh confirmed they will invest £20million via a share issue, with most of those funds going directly into Martin’s transfer budget.

New sporting director Kevin Thelwell will work with incoming technical director Dan Purdy, as they did at Everton, in order to seek out new signings.

Rangers finished 17 points behind Celtic last season in the Scottish Premiership, but will hope to utilise their extra funds to close that gap in the 2025/26 campaign.
