'He's the player you need at Rangers to stop Celtic winning 10-in-a-row' - Exclusive
Noel Whelan insisted Rangers must keep hold of Connor Goldson if they want to mount a serious title challenge next season.
The former Leeds and Aberdeen striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, claimed Steven Gerrard will be desperate for the 27-year-old to remain at Ibrox for at least one more season.
Football Insider has revealed the former Brighton defender is the subject of interest from West Ham, Leeds, West Brom and Fulham this summer.
Rangers value their centre-half, who still has two-year remaining on his contract at Ibrox, at £6million.
Whelan suggested signing an adequate replacement for Goldson may cost more than the potential £6million fee they will receive.
“I think if Rangers have got any serious hopes of competing with Celtic they have got to keep these players or at least try to keep them,” he told Football Insider.

“If you let go of a player like that, who knows the club, you will have to replace that and a replacement would likely cost money if you want that sort of quality. He was always going to have interest.
“If I was Steven Gerrard I would be desperate to keep hold of my best players. He is the sort of player you need at the club if you want to stop Celtic winning 10 in a row.”
Goldson has been a virtual ever-present for the Gers this season – making a total of 51 appearances despite the SPFL’s decision to curtail the campaign in May.
He missed just two games in the entirety of the season, playing every single minute in the league and netted three goals.
