Exclusive: Rangers want to sign ‘hidden gem’ they can ‘sell on for big money’

Rangers are targeting the signing of a hidden gem who they can develop and sell on for a large fee, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the club will be limited in their spending as a result of their financial issues and have been made to adjust their plans.

Gers’ recruitment team are scouring Europe and the rest of the world for young talents who can make an impact in the first-team before moving on to secure their financial position.

This direction has been led by technical director Nils Koppen, who was tasked with revolutionising their recruitment following his appointment in January 2024.

However, it is considered a gamble for the Ibrox club as they remain 11 points behind Celtic in the SPFL, with a growing feeling they need to make signings who can make an immediate impact.

Links with a move to sign NK Varazdin attacking midfielder Leon Belcar have seen Rangers pushing forward with their plans, although they face competition from AZ Alkmaar and Club Brugge.

Rangers plotting move to sign hidden gem

Rangers have had recent success in the transfer market with the £2.5million signing of 22-year-old Hamza Igamane from Moroccan outfit AS Far Rabat in the summer.

After a period spent adapting to Scottish football, the striker has now become one of the first names on the team sheet in Clement’s side.

As a result, Rangers are keen to replicate this signing on a wider scale, with their efforts in the transfer market focused on finding similar low-price deals.

Then, in the future, they aim to sell the players for major profits which can be reinvested into the squad to strengthen the team and continue to develop young talents.

There is, however, recognition that the project will take time to have any significant affect on the team and finances and plenty of patience will be required.
