Exclusive: Rob Edwards’ stance on accepting Wolves manager offer revealed

Middlesbrough manager Rob Edwards is “very keen” to be the new Wolves manager, sources have told Football Insider.

The Midlands outfit are set to open formal talks with the Boro boss after approaching his club.

Football Insider revealed at lunchtime on Thursday (6 November) that Wolves were advancing in their pursuit of Edwards as they intensify plans to replace the sacked Vitor Pereira.

Wolves held talks with former boss Gary O’Neil, but the 42-year-old withdrew from the running on Monday (3 November).

Ex-Wolves player Edwards, also 42, has always been a strong candidate at Molineux and is now emerging as the number one contender for the role.

Sources say he is “very keen” to return to his old club and make the step back to the Premier League.

Edwards ready for third Wolves spell

Edwards played for Wolves 111 times between 2004 and 2008, and also worked in their academy set-up and as a first-team coach under Kenny Jackett following his retirement in 2013.

He took charge of Forest Green Rovers and Watford before being appointed as Luton Town boss in 2022 as he went on lead them to the Premier League through the Championship play-offs.

The 42-year-old was only handed the reins at Middlesbrough in June, five months on from his Luton sacking, and he has taken the Teesside outfit to third in the second-tier with 26 points from 14 games so far.

Erik ten Hag has been linked with a move to Wolves recently, with O’Neil also in the running before he pulled out, but Edwards is now their first-choice and an appointment could soon be confirmed as he opens up to taking the job.

Wolves could soon be under new ownership amid John Textor links

Wolves fans have been up in arms with their owners Fosun Group in recent times as they stare relegation in the face, but there could soon be change at boardroom level as well as in the Molineux dugout.

Former Crystal Palace shareholder John Textor has emerged as a contender to buy Wolves after reportedly launching a bid of £150million in cash and a further £262.2m in shares to purchase the West Midlands club.

Football finance expert Stefan Borson has told Football Insider that Textor is likely to be planning a multi-club model with Wolves, and that is bound to excite supporters, considering the success that the likes of Man City and Chelsea have tasted while being a part of a similar structure.
