
Exclusive: Robbie Savage in contention for Northampton Town job
Robbie Savage is under consideration for the vacant manager’s job at Northampton Town, sources have told Football Insider.
The Cobblers hierarchy have been very impressed with the 50-year-old former Wales international during his time as manager at Macclesfield Town.
Savage has guided the Cheshire-based side to the top of the Northern Premier League – the seventh tier of English football.
Jon Brady resigned as manager of Northampton on Thursday (5 December) with the club 21st in the League One table.
He leaves after three and a half years in charge and his assistant Ian Sampson has been put in interim charge for their fixture against Peterborough next week (9 December).
Savage originally came on board at Macclesfield as a board member and director of football in October 2020.

He was appointed as manager in the off-season to take his first coaching role in football.
Macclesfield sit top of the Northern Premier League by 15 points having lost just one of 18 games so far in the 2024-25 campaign.

Savage played 346 Premier League games and earned 39 Wales caps before retiring from playing professional football in 2011.
He has spoken out about rejecting lucrative management offers from other clubs in recent months but Northampton could now move to tempt the ex-midfielder away from the Silkmen.
