Exclusive: Robinson raves about sparingly-used Aston Villa player who is priceless to Smith

Paul Robinson heaped praise on Aston Villa defender Ahmed Elmohamady and claimed he was priceless to Dean Smith due to his experience.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the former Tottenham and Blackburn goalkeeper stated that Elmohamady was a reliable player due to his vast experience of English football.

Smith has opted to sparingly-use the Villans right-back this season but he has played the full 90 minutes of his side’s last two league games.

Robinson also added that despite being 32-years-old, Elmohamady was a very fit player who was still able to charge up and down the right flank.

When asked if it’s priceless to Smith to have someone with as much experienced as Elmohamady to call upon, Robinson told Football Insider: “Yeah, I mean he is very experienced.

“He is 32 now and he has played in England for a long time now, he spent a long time at Hull City after a spell Sunderland.

“And he knows English football and with the experience he has you can rely on him.

“Also at the age of 32, he is still a very fit player with good defensive qualities who can get up and down the right-hand side.”

Elmohamady has featured a total of eight times in the Premier League this season, racking up one assist in the process.

The Egyptian defender has been at Villa Park since July 2017 after joining from Hull City and is contracted to stay with the Villans until 2021.
