Paul Robinson admitted he was surprised that Marco Silva keeps utilising Everton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin as the 30-year-old should take some blame for the Toffees leaking far too many goals.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the former Blackburn and Burnley keeper admitted he wasn’t quite sure why Schneiderlin had played so many games this season as he’s clearly out of form.
Schneiderlin has played a total of 10 times across all competitions this season and has featured in the Toffees’ last two league matches.
Robinson shared that a lot of the goals that the Toffees were conceding came through the midfield with Schneiderlin so the 30-year-old helps contribute to the problem and added the Frenchman offered nothing going forward.
When asked if he is surprised Silva keeps using Schneiderlin with the midfielder struggling, Robinson told Football Insider: “Yeah, he has played a lot of games, about nine or ten games so Silva has stuck with him.
“He likes him in that holding midfield role, he’s got Tom Davies next to him but Schneiderlin is a little bit too much backwards and sidewards at the moment with his passes.
“You can tell he is a player out of form and he doesn’t give them anything going forward and his performances haven’t been great.
“They’ve been leaking far too many goals and that starts in midfield with Schneiderlin and Davies.
“And a lot of the goals come through the midfield with Schneiderlin.”
Schneiderlin has been at Goodison Park since joining from Manchester United in January 2017 and is contracted to stay with the Toffees until 2021.
The 30-year-old midfield enforcer has made a total of 80 appearances for the Merseyside club and previously featured in the Premier League with Manchester United and Southampton.
