Ruben Amorim will be given time and the summer transfer window to transform fortunes at Man United, sources have told Football Insider.

United are guaranteed to record their lowest-ever Premier League points tally this season and could finish as low as 17th.

Amorim was appointed to succeed Erik ten Hag in November 2024 but has not improved form or performances at Old Trafford.

However, sources have told Football Insider that United chiefs have a long-term project in mind and will give the Portuguese boss time and transfer backing to improve the situation.

For the meantime, the focus is on winning the Europa League with Champions League qualification potentially providing a huge boost to finances at Old Trafford.

United head into Thursday’s (17 April) quarter-final second leg against Lyon with the tie finely poised at 2-2 – and could play one of Rangers or Athletic Bilbao in the semi-final.

Amorim signed a contract running until June 2027 upon his arrival at Old Trafford last year.

He is expected to push for a number of signings in the summer window as he vies to put his own stamp on a Man United squad that was sculpted by predecessor Ten Hag.

Fernandes sets stance on quitting Man United

Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed that Man United have no immediate concerns over captain Bruno Fernandes choosing to quit the club.

Amorim has shot down links with Spanish giants Real Madrid – who would deliver the midfielder a chance to fight for the world’s biggest trophies.

Sources say Fernandes is determined to restore Man United to their former greatness and has taken a lot of responsibility as he tries to deliver that objective.
