Exclusive: Ruben Amorim sack update emerges from Man United today

Man United manager Ruben Amorim still has the full backing of club chiefs despite their worrying recent form, sources have told Football Insider.

United were defeated 3-1 by Brighton on Sunday (19 January), leaving the Red Devils 13th in the Premier League after 22 games.

Amorim was given a long-term contract and a project when he replaced Erik ten Hag in November – and it is believed United chiefs are not panicking yet.

The Portuguese boss has won just three of his 11 Premier League games in charge – but did lead his side to a penalty shoot-out win over Arsenal in the FA Cup.

United chiefs do not want to make another change so soon after working hard to convince Amorim to take up the post at Old Trafford.

His contract with the Red Devils runs until June 2027 and he will get time to implement his methods and ideology at the club.

Man United chiefs not panicking over Amorim future

Amorim admitted on Sunday that his side were “the worst team, maybe, in the history of Manchester United”.

His predecessor Ten Hag won the League Cup and FA Cup in back-to-back seasons before being dismissed late last year.

United are next in action in the Europa League on Thursday (23 January) against Rangers, before facing Fulham on Sunday (26 January).

Amorim’s side are 12 points outside the top four and have not finished in the bottom half in the history of the Premier League.

In other news, Man City could be about to “ruin Man United’s Marcus Rashford plan”.
