Exclusive: Ruben Amorim tells friends he ‘regrets taking Man United job’
Man United boss Ruben Amorim has told friends he thinks he made a mistake taking the job at Old Trafford, sources have told Football Insider.
The Portuguese boss, 40, feels he should have waited until this summer at least – and should not have succumbed to the ‘now-or-never’ ultimatum issued to him by United chiefs.
Amorim replaced Erik ten Hag in mid-November but has not inspired a new manager bounce at Man United – who sit 14th and have been eliminated from both domestic cup competitions.
Sources say the ex-Sporting CP boss has been “personally shocked by how bad the players are”, having “thought they were much better” as he prepared to take the hot seat at Old Trafford.

He signed a contract running until June 2027 when he arrived at the Red Devils.
The Portuguese boss clashed with Marcus Rashford prior to his loan move to Aston Villa, publicly criticising his training levels – and also singling out winger Alejandro Garnacho.
Amorim was given just one January signing at Man United amid a backdrop of financial issues at the club, with left-back Patrick Dorgu joining from Lecce on a permanent basis.

He won six titles during his time as manager of Braga and Sporting CP in Portugal but the Europa League is his only chance of silverware at United this term.
Man United fans turned on Amorim in the aftermath of their FA Cup exit against Fulham on Sunday (2 March) – with many are calling for him to be sacked.

Amorim has ‘destroyed morale’ at Man United
Meanwhile, Football Insider has been told by ex-United chief scout Mick Brown (27 February) that Amorim is “destroying morale” in the Man United dressing room with his media comments.
He told the media last month that his side are “maybe the worst” in the 147-year history of Man United.
Brown insisted Amorim has had “more than enough time to establish the issues” in the side he inherited.
