Exclusive: Sheffield United’s stance on Gustavo Hamer transfer in January revealed
Sheffield United are desperate to keep star midfielder Gustavo Hamer in January, sources have told Football Insider.
The Blades are expecting to receive interest in the Dutchman during the winter window, despite the fact that he has managed just three goal involvements in the Championship so far this term.
Leeds United have been heavily linked with a move for Hamer in each of the last two windows, but sources now say that the moment for that deal to take place has now been and gone.
Nevertheless, United are preparing for interest in the 28-year-old, with Chris Wilder viewing him as a player who could alter the course of their campaign in the second half of the season.
The South Yorkshire outfit want to keep the ex-Coventry City star at all costs, as he is widely viewed as one of the division’s best players.

Gustavo Hamer’s contract situation at Sheffield United
Sheffield United fans tore into Hamer on social media after their defeat to West Brom in their last outing, and he has endured an uncharacteristically poor season so far.
He was named as the Championship Player of the Season last term after 18 goal contributions, but his form so far in 2025-26 has been a far cry from that.
However, that is unlikely to prevent interest in a player who has dazzled in the second tier for several seasons now.
Hamer’s contract situation is beginning to cause an issue at Bramall Lane, as his current deal is due to expire in the summer of 2027.

Sheffield United are understandably desperate to keep hold of him for now, but that could create its own problems in the summer, when his deal will have just one year left to run.
Gustavo Hamer to attract Premier League interest
Leeds were heavily linked with Hamer in the summer but were ultimately unable to get a deal done.
However, it is unlikely that they will be the last Premier League club that the Blades have to fend off in their bid to keep hold of their Brazilian-born star.
Hamer was United’s standout player in their ill-fated top-flight campaign back in 2023-24, as he notched 10 goal contributions for a team that were ultimately relegated with just 16 points.
He showed in that season that he has the ability to be a threat to opponents at the top level, and that will surely have some of the division’s strugglers keen to try and take a gamble on him either in January or next summer.
