Exclusive: Sheffield Wednesday explore Rory Wilson deal amid Aston Villa transfer race

Sheffield Wednesday are exploring a loan move for Aston Villa striker Rory Wilson along with Stevenage and Wycombe, sources have told Football Insider.

The 20-year-old starlet has been heavily linked with a loan move away from the Premier League outfit this winter, and there are also several foreign clubs who are chasing a last-minute move for him.

Football Insider revealed at the start of January that Aston Villa had given Wilson the green light to leave on loan, but his parent club have since been carefully assessing their options to find the right club for him.

Sheffield Wednesday have now emerged among the likely candidates to complete a late swoop for Wilson, as the Championship strugglers plot a move ahead of Monday night’s transfer deadline.

Rory Wilson set for first senior experience

Football Insider revealed on deadline day that Aston Villa are set to terminate Samuel Iling-Junior’s loan at West Brom, but that could follow that up by sanctioning an exit for Wilson.

The starlet has been in prolific form for the Villans’ Under-19 side in the UEFA Youth League so far this term, where he has five goals from just four games.

He has also netted twice from six outings in the Premier League 2, in which players aged 21 or under are available for selection.

Wilson has been earmarked for big things at Villa ever since he plundered 20 goals in 18 games for the Under-18 team during the 2023-24 campaign, and he is tied down to a long-term deal with his parent club.

The Scot now appears to head out on loan for his first experience of senior football, with Stevenage and Wycombe queuing up to offer a League One alternative to the Championship interest from Sheffield Wednesday.

Sheffield Wednesday still facing interest in Bailey Cadamarteri

Bailey Cadamarteri is attracting plenty of interest at Sheffield Wednesday of late, as the Owls try to keep hold of their own prized young striker.

Blackburn Rovers saw a second bid rejected by the South Yorkshire outfit, while Hibernian have also had an offer knocked back previously.

Cadamarteri has caught the eye during what has been a hugely difficult season for Henrik Pedersen’s side, and they have tried everything to keep hold of their academy graduate in recent weeks.

The interest in the 20-year-old still remains in the final stages of the window, and as a result, Wednesday will surely be desperate to see that 7pm deadline hone into view.
