Exclusive: Sheffield Wednesday respond to Southampton’s Danny Rohl interest
Sheffield Wednesday will do “everything they can” to keep Southampton manager target Danny Rohl, sources have told Football Insider.
The Saints are weighing up a move to lure Rohl, 35, away from Hillsborough after his impressive stint in Yorkshire.
Football Insider revealed on Monday (16 December) that Southampton have set their sights on sealing a quick replacement for sacked boss Russell Martin and want a new man in place for the trip to Fulham this weekend.
Rohl was previously at St Mary’s Stadium as assistant boss to Ralph Hasenhuttl before leaving for Bayern Munich.
Club chiefs are keen on the German but his potential appointment could be complicated by a fight for compensation from Sheffield Wednesday.
He signed a new long-term contract at Hillsborough in the off-season after leading the Owls away from the relegation zone last term.
Sheffield Wednesday fighting to block Rohl’s Southampton move
Rohl took over at Wednesday in October 2023 and has won 23 of 56 Championship games at the club.
His side sit ninth in the second tier after 21 games of the 2024-25 campaign and are just five points adrift of a playoff place.

Meanwhile, Southampton sit bottom on just five points – and are already effectively 10 points from safety.
The Saints face Fulham, West Ham and Crystal Palace before the start of 2025.
