Exclusive: Pundit has dig at Tottenham after Son reveal
Danny Mills has had a dig at Tottenham for capitalising on the season suspension to allow Son Heung-min to carry out his military service.
The former Leeds United full-back, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, suggested Spurs would “make the most” of the situation given how much they have missed the 27-year-old whilst absent this season.
The club confirmed on Monday that the Korean would commence and complete his mandatory national military service this month.
The winger, who will serve four-weeks, arrived back in his home country at the end of March where he is currently in quarantine.
Son was handed exemption from the compulsory 21-month military service handed to all male citizens before the age of 35 after winning the gold medal for South Korea at the Asian Games.
When asked by Football Insider if now is the best time for the attacker to complete his reduced service, Mills said: “It is a question of whether it is safe for him to do it.
“He is a massive player for them. A huge commodity and we have all seen how much they have missed him whilst he has been injured.
“Spurs will look to make the most of any given situation. That is not wrong. It just is what it is. All things considered, it probably is the best time to do it.”
It is highly unlikely that Son will miss any fixtures for the Lilywhites with the Premier League suspended indefinitely amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Governing bodies are hoping to resume in mid-June or July, Football Insider understands, which would give the former Hambury player time to complete his service and return.
The forward has not featured since breaking his arm in Spurs’ 3-2 win against Aston Villa in February.
