Exclusive: Southampton make Russell Martin sack decision today
Southampton are set to keep the faith with manager Russell Martin despite the club’s woeful early-season form, sources have told Football Insider.
However, it is believed club chiefs feel there is “no rush” to make a decision on the future of the Scot, who was handed a new contract at St Mary’s Stadium in the off-season.
Southampton have just five points from 15 Premier League games this term and are already effectively nine points from safety at the foot of the table.
The south coast club resisted pressure to sack Martin earlier in the 2024-25 campaign and are set to do so once again despite increasing fan unrest.
Saints have won just one league game this season – a 1-0 home triumph over Everton.
Southampton to keep faith with Russell Martin despite horror run
Martin’s side have scored the fewest Premier League goals (11) this term and have also let in 31, with only Wolves conceding more (36).
The ex-Swansea boss has endured criticism from fans and pundits alike for his possession-based style which has resulted in a series of errors which have led to goals from the opposition.

Southampton are next in action against out-of-form Tottenham, who have picked up just one point from their last three top-flight games.
The Saints also face a League Cup quarter-final clash at home against Liverpool next week (18 December).
