Exclusive: Steven Alzate has Italy & Spain offers after Brighton exit
Steven Alzate is weighing up offers from clubs in Italy, Spain, Belgium, MLS, and Saudi Arabia following his Brighton exit, sources have told Football Insider.
The midfielder, 25, is a free agent after seeing out his contract at the Premier League club earlier this summer.
Spanish trio Celta Vigo, Espanyol, Leganes, and a couple of Serie A sides have expressed an interest in signing the Colombian international.
Alazate, who is understood to have turned down interest from several EFL Championship sides, has also attracted interest from MLS duo LAFC and San Jose Earthquakes as well as Belgian pair Genk and Club Brugge.
He has spent the last two seasons in Belgium with Stanard Liege making 54 appearances and scoring five goals during his time there.
Steven Alzate weighing up options after Brighton release
The Colombia international worked his way through Brighton’s youth system before being shipped out on loan to Swindon Town for six months where he made 26 appearances and scored three goals.
After his loan, Alzate was given an opportunity in the Brighton first-team making 51 appearances and scoring three goals but he was unable to solidify his place in the starting eleven.
The midfielder was then sent to Belgian club Standard Liege to continue his development but was released at the end of last season.
Alzate isn’t the only Brighton midfielder who has been deemed surplus to requirements by the club.
Football Insider revealed (July 22) that Brighton were open to the sale of Scotland international Billy Gilmour for £10 million.
