Exclusive: Stoke City make contact over signing Man United’s Harry Amass

Stoke City have made contact about signing Man United defender Harry Amass in this month’s transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

The left-back, 18, is currently on loan at Sheffield Wednesday, but the deal is due to expire after this weekend’s game against Queens Park Rangers.

Stoke have expressed an interest to Manchester United about taking Amass on loan for the second half of the season. Meanwhile, Wednesday are hoping to extend Amass’ spell at Hillsborough.

Amass was one of three players criticised by Ruben Amorim last month, with the Manchester United manager claiming that the youngster is “struggling in the Championship.”

Amorim was slammed for his comments about Amass, which were proven untrue when the left-back won player of the month at Hillsborough.

Harry Amass in strong form with Sheffield Wednesday

Manchester United are unlikely to end Amass’ time at Wednesday, with the full-back enjoying a strong season at Hillsborough.

Amid huge financial issues under previous owner Dejphon Chansiri, Wednesday have been hit by several point deductions this season.

The Owls sit at the foot of the Championship table, with their minus seven points all but guaranteeing their relegation to League One at the end of the season.

But despite his team’s form, Amass has enjoyed a strong spell under Henrik Pedersen this season.

The defender put in a sparkling performance as Wednesday earned a clean sheet and a point in their 0-0 draw with Blackburn Rovers on Monday.

Amass made three tackles, three interceptions, 11 recoveries, was fouled four times, and won 13 of his 16 duels in the contest.

While the 18-year-old certainly looks ready to feature for a team further up the league, Manchester United will be hesitant to interrupt his strong form.

Stoke City in need of a lift in January

Stoke had started the season in tremendous fashion, but now find themselves stuck in a real rut.

The Potters have lost seven of their last 10 games in the Championship and were lucky to only lose by one goal against Sheffield United at the Bet365 Stadium on Monday.

Shortly after half-time, Mark Robins‘ side were down 2-0, with Ben Wilmot‘s goal ultimately proving meaningless.

Ben Pearson‘s late red card piled on the misery for Stoke, who are in desperate need of a boost. A signing of the ilk of Amass this month could be exactly what is needed.
