Exclusive: Sunderland and Blackburn race to sign Jayden Danns

Sunderland and Blackburn Rovers are racing to sign Liverpool sensation Jayden Danns on loan before Monday’s transfer deadline, sources have told Football Insider.

The 19-year-old, who is the son of former Blackburn midfielder Neil Danns, has made four first-team appearances for the Merseyside giants so far this season.

The striker got on the scoresheet for Arne Slot’s side last month after coming off the bench in the 4-0 victory over Accrington Stanley in the FA Cup third round.

Championship promotion rivals Sunderland and Blackburn are now battling to sign Danns on loan as they look to add to their attacking options before the window closes.

Danns has spent the past 11 years with Liverpool after joining the club’s academy in 2014.

The England youth international made his Premier League debut in the 4-1 victory over Luton Town in February last year.

The forward then scored his first senior goals for the Merseysiders just days later after bagging a brace in the 3-0 victory over Southampton in the FA Cup fifth round, leading to the club handing him a new long-term contract.

Sunderland and Blackburn are looking to agree a loan deal for Danns before Monday’s deadline in a bid to strengthen their promotion hopes.

Sunderland sit fourth in the Championship table – just one place above Blackburn – but there is a 10-point gap between the two sides.

Football Insider exclusively revealed on 1 February Regis Le Bris’s side have rejected a formal offer from Premier League club Brighton for winger Tom Watson.

The two clubs remain in talks over a potential deal for the 18-year-old, who has scored two goals in his 11 first-team appearances this season.
