Swansea City are among a number of Championship clubs eyeing a move for Shrewsbury Town centre-back Aaron Pierre, Football Insider can reveal.
The defender has been instrumental in Shrewsbury’s recent good run of form.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider Swansea City are in the market for a new centre-back in January after losing Joe Rodon to Tottenham in the last window.
Pierre has helped Town to keep clean sheets in wins against League One leading pack Hull City, Lincoln City and Doncaster Rovers this season.
The 27-year-old has also chipped in with four goals in 19 league appearances from defence.
The shrews have been unbeaten since Steve Cotterill replaced Sam Ricketts on November 27 and are now just eight points away from the League One play-off places.
However, losing Pierre would represent a significant blow as he has only missed one league game this season.
Swansea are in the middle of a fantastic run themselves having lost just one of their last six Championship games.
Steve Cooper’s side currently sit third in the second-tier, one point behind Brentford who are in the final automatic place.
The Welsh side have lined up with Marc Guehi, Ben Cabango and Ryan Bennett in a back three this season.
However, the swans could be vulnerable if one of them suffers an injury with Cooper’s back-up options limited.
Natural full-back Kyle Naughton has been converted into a centre-back this season after Rodon’s summer departure.
In other news, Football Insider can reveal Swansea’s Championship rivals Blackburn Rovers have opened talks with Shrewsbury over loaning out a winger.
