Exclusive: Swansea set sights on Peterborough’s Hector Kyprianou as deal agreed

Swansea City are considering a move for Peterborough United midfielder Hector Kyprianou after sending scouts to watch him midweek, sources have told Football Insider.

Kyprianou, 24, is in the final six months of his contract at Peterborough and the Cyprus international has attracted the interest of a number of clubs.

Swansea sent scouts to watch Kyprianou in Tuesday’s (28 January) League One clash with Wigan.

The Welsh club are in the market for a new defensive midfielder to replace Coventry-bound Matt Grimes.

Football Insider revealed on Wednesday (29 January) that Grimes is set for a medical on Thursday after both clubs agreed a fee for his services – and Swansea have since confirmed they have accepted a bid.

Peterborough captain Kyprianou has been identified as a potential replacement and the Swans are now weighing up a move.

The 24-year-old has made 22 appearances across all competitions for Posh this term, starting in 18 of those outings.

He has racked up three goal contributions for Darren Ferguson’s side in League One this season.

The London-born ace joined Peterborough from Leyton Orient in 2022 but is out of contract in the off-season.

Kyprianou made his senior Cyprus debut in October 2023 and has gone on to represent his country 10 times, primarily as a centre-back.
