Exclusive: Top pundit claims 'Superb' Leeds starlet forcing his way into Bielsa's PL plans
Darren Bent has been left raving over Leeds United starlet Jamie Shackleton after his end-of-season performances.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former England striker insists it was important for the midfielder to make an impression when given the chance and that he was “superb” for Marcelo Bielsa’s men.
The 20-year-old netted against both Derby County and Charlton in the Whites’ final two games to round off the campaign in style.
Bent believes Shackleton needed to impress ahead of a “massive” season in the Premier League and suggests he has forced his way into Bielsa’s thinking for next season.
Bent told Football Insider: “It’s going to be massive and he’s given everyone a little timely reminder: ‘Listen, this is what I can do and I might be a young kid but this is what I can do now.’
“I love to see young kids come into a team and take their opportunities. They show no fear, he didn’t – he scored two good goals so for me it was important, he was superb and it was important he did that.

“I’m glad Leeds are back, I don’t actually know why, I’m just glad that they are back.”
Shackleton, who can operate as a midfielder or a right-back, played 22 times in the Championship last season but only started five of those games.
He has a total of 48 first-team appearances under his belt for his boyhood club, the majority of which have come as a substitute.
In other Leeds United news, Alan Hutton has revealed that Aston Villa manager Dean Smith has talked about signing a senior star from Elland Road.
