Exclusive: Tottenham make Ange Postecoglou sack decision as key day revealed

Tottenham are not likely to sack manager Ange Postecoglou if the club are dumped out of the Europa League on Thursday (13 March), sources have told Football Insider.

Spurs are 1-0 down on aggregate against AZ Alkmaar of the Eredivisie following a narrow loss in the Netherlands last week.

Postecoglou’s side must overturn that deficit to progress to the quarter-final – where they could play Eintracht Frankfurt or Ajax.

The AZ fixture is huge for the Australian’s future but it is believed a loss won’t lead directly to his sacking at this time.

Instead, sources say Tottenham plan to hold a review of the 2024-25 campaign in the off-season – with the number of key injuries expected to be held up as a mitigating factor for Postecoglou.

Tottenham not likely to sack Postecoglou before post-season review

If Spurs were to progress in Europe – club chiefs have optimism they can go far in the competition with key players beginning to return to action after long spells on the treatment table.

Tottenham fans have shown their frustration with performances in recent weeks with Postecoglou’s brand of football coming under the spotlight.

The Europa League is Tottenham’s last chance at silverware this term following elimination in both domestic cups in early February.

Meanwhile, Spurs sit 13th in the Premier League table despite picking up 10 points from a possible 15 in their last five top-flight games.

Postecoglou has been in charge of the Lilywhites since 2023 and is under contract with the club until June 2027.

Arsenal move ahead of Tottenham in striker race

Football Insider revealed last week (7 March) that Arsenal are leading Tottenham in the race to sign RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko.

Arsenal wanted to sign Sesko from Leipzig last summer (2024) before the German outfit tied him down to a new contract.

Both clubs are keen to add to their attacking options in the upcoming summeer window – and the Slovenia international has a £58million release clause in his deal.
