Exclusive: Tottenham ready to sell Oliver Skipp & sign replacement

Tottenham are willing to let midfielder Oliver Skipp leave but first want to sign a homegrown star, sources have told Football Insider.

On July 17th, Football Insider exclusively revealed that Premier League new boys Leicester City are interested in bringing Oliver Skipp, 23, to the club.

Spurs are willing to let their academy product leave but will have to sign another home-grown player in order to comply with Premier League rules.

The rules state that each top-flight club should include at least eight homegrown players. Should Spurs sell Skipp to Leicester, they would only have seven.

A home-grown player is a player who regardless of nationality has been registered with any club linked to the Football Association or the Football Association of Wales for a period, continuous or not, of three entire seasons.

For example, Spurs can count Wales international Brennan Johnson as a home-grown player.

The north London club hlare pursuing a move for Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke. If they were to sign Solanke, they could sell Skipp to Leicester and still be within the rules.

Spurs will have to buy before letting Skipp leave

Although Spurs might be open to letting Skipp go, the midfielder’s contract runs until 2027, giving them a strong negotiating position.

Meanwhile, Leicester are eager to strengthen their midfield following the £30 million sale of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to Chelsea as they prepare for their return to the top flight.

Skipp has made 77 Premier League appearances scoring one goal but has failed to establish himself under Ange Postecoglou with most of his 21 league appearances last season coming off the bench.

Football Insider recently revealed (July 21) that Spurs are battling it out with Liverpool to secure the signing of Eberechi Eze who could fill the gap should Skipp leave the club.

In other news, Spurs are up against Crystal Palace in race to sign ex-player.
