Tottenham have set their sights on Monaco midfielder Youri Tielemans after being blown away by his impact on loan at Leicester City, Football Insider understands.
The Belgium international, 21, joined the Foxes on loan in January after Spurs held back on following up their own interest amid doubts over whether he could slot immediately into their side.
A source close to the player has told Football Insider that Tottenham have continued to watch Tielemans closely and initial talks have been held with his camp about exploring the possibility of a summer move.
Leicester’s agreement with Monaco does not include an option to buy and the French club may now sert the asking price for the central midfielder way beyond the £20million discussed in January.
Tielemans has settled in well to Premier League life, providing grit and guile from central midfield and thrived in a more attacking role in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Bournemouth.
The 21-times Belgium international has supplied four assists from seven league matches, including the cross for Jamie Vardy’s header on Saturday, as well as scoring once.
He was also a prolific scorer and creator at former club Anderlecht, while netting fives times at Monaco in the first half of this season.
In other Tottenham transfer news, it can be revealed that Daniel Levy has put the block on Spurs superstar quitting with unexpected behind-the-scenes move.
