Exclusive: Update on Grady Diangana staying at West Brom next season
The possibility of Grady Diangana heading back to West Brom next season hinges on the outcome of the West Ham relegation battle.
The Championship’s second-placed club are keen to sign the winger, 22, permanently or on a second season-long loan.
A West Ham source has told Football Insider that the club and manager David Moyes will not make any decision until they know if they are in the Premier League next season.
A permanent deal is unlikely as the Hammers value Diangana at a price West Brom are unlikely to be able to afford, even if they go up.
But another loan could be on the cards if West Ham win their fight for Premier League survival.
Their summer recruitment would dictate where Diangana sits in their attacking player pecking order.
Should Moyes side’ fall into the Championship, it is likely they would have to sell a number of senior stars to make ends meet and that would open the door for their home-grown youngster to be a regular starter.
Certainly, the Midlands big hitters are well placed to sign Diangana on a second loan if he is made available.
West Ham had been delighted with the winger’s progress in the opening half of this season and opted not to trigger a recall clause in January despite their own troubles.
The dazzling young attacker missed 13 of West Brom’s 15 league matches before the lockdown.
But the suspension has given him time to get into shape for the run-in and add to his haul of five goals and six assists from 22 matches this season.
