Exclusive: Vitor Pereira to be sanctioned after Wolves loss to Liverpool

Wolves manager Vitor Pereira is set to receive a sanction from the FA for his post-match comments after losing to Liverpool, according to Keith Hackett.

The former PGMOL chief and ex-FIFA official exclusively told Football Insider that Pereira will likely be asked by “the authorities” about his comments after his side lost 2-1 to Liverpool on Saturday (15 February).

Wolves were looking to make it three wins on the bounce, having beaten Aston Villa in the Premier League, and Blackburn Rovers in the cup, but were unable to withstand the Reds.

Luis Diaz gave Liverpool the lead in the 15th minute, before Mohamed Salah scored a penalty in the 37th minute to double the Merseyside team’s lead.

Referee Simon Hooper was hailed for his decision to award the penalty for Liverpool, as Diaz went down after contact from Wolves goalkeeper, Jose Sa.

Matheus Cunha is likely to leave Wolves in the summer, and the Brazilian scored in the 67th minute, giving his team a route back into the game.

Despite creating some good chances, the Midlands side were unable to fight back in the closing stages.

Vitor Pereira makes controversial Simon Hooper comments after Liverpool vs Wolves

Following the match, the Wolves manager said “If I had yellow cards in my pocket”, and then gestured as if he was showing the cards to the referee, and then said “Or maybe a red card”.

The Portuguese manager was clearly unhappy with some of the decisions that went against his side.

Ibrahima Konate was fortunate not be shown a red card against Wolves, and the Frenchman clattered into Cunha just before half-time, while already on a booking, but escaped punishment.

Diogo Jota was fortunate to go unpunished for an act of simulation against Wolves, in another incident that likely would have left Pereira frustrated.

Ex-PGMOL chief gives his verdict on Wolves manager Vitor Pereira

Speaking to Football Insider about the post-match interview from the Wolves boss, ex-PGMOL chief, Hackett, said:

“I suggest that the manager will be asked by the authorities for his comments.

“Then expect him to receive a sanction from the Football Association.”

Despite the light-heartedness of the comments from Pereira, they were still critical in nature, and the Wolves manager will likely face some sort of punishment from the FA.

The Midlands side are now 17th in the Premier League table, only two points above Ipswich, who sit in the relegation zone.
