Watford are in advanced talks to sign Danish winger Philip Zinckernagel on a free transfer from Bodo/Glimt, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.
The 26-year-old’s contract is due to expire on Friday and he is set to leave the club as a free agent.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Watford have moved to try and bring the attacker to Vicarage Road ahead of the January transfer window.
Zinckernagel helped Bodo/Glimt win the Norwegian championship this season, his 28 appearances in the league yielding a remarkable 19 goals and 24 assists.
He also scored an impressive three goals in the club’s Europa League qualifying campaign, in which they were eliminated in the third round by Italian giants AC Milan.
The winger is yet to make a senior appearance for Denmark but has featured for his country at Under-20 and Under-18 level in the past.
The player is represented by Pinhas Zahavi, a super agent associated with the likes of Neymar and Robert Lewandowski. (transfermarkt)
Zinckernagel could become new Watford boss Xisco Munoz’s first signing at the club.
The Spaniard was appointed at Vicarage Road shortly after the dismissal of Vladimir Ivic earlier this month to become the Hornets fifth permanent manager in just over a year.
Watford are looking to bolster their attack in the winter having scored just 24 goals so far this season – the second lowest number of any side in the top half of the Championship.
