Exclusive: West Ham make Edson Alvarez transfer decision after offer

West Ham will not consider loan offers for midfielder Edson Alvarez this month, sources have told Football Insider.

The Irons ideally don’t want to lose the 27-year-old in the January window despite his mixed form in the 2024-25 campaign to date.

Alvarez has been the subject of a loan bid from Ligue 1 side Monaco this month but they have seen their advance rebuffed.

It is believed the London club will only accept permanent bids that meet their valuation for the Mexico international.

The Irons are eyeing midfield upgrades this month but are prioritising additions in a more creative role.

Alvarez has made 19 appearances across all competitions this term but has started just 13 games.

He has already been sent off in two games this term and has missed two games through suspension.

West Ham will only consider permanent Alvarez exit

The defensive midfielder joined West Ham from Ajax in August 2023 and signed a five-year contract at the London Stadium.

Alvarez made 42 appearances across all competitions for David Moyes’ side last term and scored twice, but also racked up 17 yellow cards.

He started in Graham Potter’s first game in charge on Friday (10 January) as West Ham crashed out of the FA Cup away at Aston Villa.

The Irons sit 14th in the Premier League ahead of their new bosses’ first top-flight fixture against Fulham on Tuesday (14 January).
