Exclusive: West Ham takeover update today

West Ham chiefs could be set to sell a minority stake in the club for around £250million, sources have told Football Insider.

The Hammers board has come under pressure this season following their disappointing campaign, with Graham Potter’s side sitting 15th in the Premier League table.

Vanessa Gold, who inherited her father David Gold’s 25.1 per cent stake following his passing in 2023, previously announced her intention to sell her shares.

West Ham insider ExWHUEmployee reported on 9 May (via The West Ham Way) a wealthy American is preparing to make an offer for the Gold family’s stake.

Sources have told Football Insider those shares could be worth up to £250million as the appetite among US investors in the Premier League continues to grow.

Alongside Gold’s 25.1 per cent, David Sullivan currently holds a 38.8 per cent share in the club, while Daniel Kretinsky’s share is worth 27 per cent and Albert “Tripp” Smith retains an eight per cent shareholding at the London Stadium.

Kretinsky was believed to be looking to sell his stake earlier this year after purchasing his shares for just under £170million in 2021.

West Ham potential takeover bidder named

Former Everton chief Keith Wyness told Football Insider Bobby Kotick could be behind the latest West Ham takeover bid.

However, he insisted the former Activision Blizzard CEO is unlikely to pursue a deal unless a full takeover is on the cards.

West Ham’s owners have drawn criticism for their running of the club and the controversial move to the London Stadium.

Despite their recent struggles on the pitch, the Hammers are still operating well as a business.

West Ham posted a record-breaking revenue last season after their turnover surged from £236.7million in 2022-23 to £269.8million.

The club improved their commercial income from £35.1million in 2022-23 to £41.9million, while their matchday revenue grew from £40.9million to £44.6million.

West Ham plan to sign Alphonse Areola upgrade

Football Insider revealed on 11 May Potter wants to sign Aaron Ramsdale this summer to improve his goalkeeping options.

West Ham see the 27-year-old as an upgrade on Alphonse Areola and Lukasz Fabianski despite his relegation with Southampton.

Ramsdale has a relegation release clause in his contract, with multiple Premier League clubs understood to be considering making a move to sign him this summer.
