Noel Whelan is in awe of Harvey Elliott as the Liverpool youngster continues to impress while on loan at Blackburn Rovers.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, the former Leeds United striker claimed Reds manager Jurgen Klopp will be “over the moon” with the 17-year-old’s “fantastic” start to the 2020/21 campaign.
Elliott grabbed his fourth assist of the season on Saturday as Blackburn drew 2-2 at Brentford.
The teenager has also scored twice since he complete a season-long loan move to Ewood Park in October, establishing himself as an integral part of Tony Mowbray’s side.
Whelan claimed a place in Liverpool’s first team squad awaits the attacking midfielder next season.
“It was a very wise decision to send him to Blackburn, absolutely,” he told Football Insider.
“He is not far from Liverpool so he has not been moved too far away from home.
“He already looks very settled there under a great manager who play a good style of football. That was a big reason why Liverpool loaned him out to Blackburn.
“Both managers will be over the moon that he is succeeding and producing weekly in the Championship. Liverpool sent him there to make that progression and he has shown that he is good enough for the Championship.
“Elliott is fantastic on the ball and he is improving game by game. He is still learning his trade but next year when he does go back to Liverpool he will hopefully return ready to be a part of that first team squad.”
