Exclusive: Whelan drops big new Leeds signing claim after announcement
Noel Whelan insisted that Leeds United “cannot afford to take their time” with Rodrigo Moreno and tipped the new signing to start the season’s opener against Liverpool.
The former Whites and Coventry forward, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, claimed that the best way for the 29-year-old to settle in at his new club is by playing football.
The club confirmed the signing of the striker on Saturday for a club-record fee as the striker put pen to paper on a four-year contract at Elland Road.

Football Insider revealed that Leeds will pay Valencia a guaranteed £27million for the Spain international as well performance-related add-ons.
Rodrigo becomes the club’s highest paid player on £100,000-a-week, significantly more than Leeds’ current highest earners Patrick Bamford and Kiko Casilla on £60,000-a-week.
When asked by Football Insider if he expects Rodrigo to be eased in at Elland Road, Whelan said: “There is no time for settling in.

“Rodrigo will have to come straight into the team and he will want to.
“When you sign for a new club the best way to bed yourself in is to put in a good display and hopefully grab a goal.
“I do not think the club can afford to take their time with him. We have Liverpool away on the first day of the season and we will need to field our strongest side. He is a very, very strong player. Our record signing, an international for Spain and we will need him.”
Speaking shortly after signing, Rodrigo said: “For me I’m really happy and very excited to join the club, this is an important season for all of us, coming back to the Premier League.
“For me this is a new step in my career and I want to help the team achieve the goals of the season.”
