Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa

Noel Whelan admitted he was baffled as Leeds United are not being open about Adam Forshaw’s injury.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the ex-Leeds striker admitted he doesn’t understand why the club are being so secretive over Forshaw as they have no reason to be.

The Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa shared that he still has no idea when the 28-year-old will be available to feature again, following the 1-0 loss to QPR.

Whelan urged the club just to come out and reveal when the midfielder is due to return to action as he believes the clubs’ physio will at least have a rough idea.

When asked about Bielsa revealing he still has no idea when Forshaw is due to return, Whelan told Football Insider: “Just be a bit more open about an injury, rather than have people guessing when he’ll return and be available.

“Look the club know, and the physios know how long away a player is from returning, they know whether it’s going to be January, March or out for the season.

“It’s as simple as that, clarify it, I don’t know why it needs to be a secret.

“You know, he’s a forgotten man, the only time people ask about him is when something happens to Kalvin.

“I don’t get it, I don’t get all the secret conversations about it, if he is out for the season, let us know if he’s coming back in late March or late April, no point hiding it.

“No one is lying about Pogba and Pogba is a better player than Forshaw, so you know come on.”

Forshaw has played eight times across all competitions this season but hasn’t featured in the Championship since the 1-0 loss to Charlton in September due to injury.

The central midfielder has been at Elland Road since joining the Whites from Middlesbrough in 2018 and is contracted to stay with Bielsa’s side until 2022.
