'Done everything' - Exclusive: Whelan raves over West Brom 'Handful' who started today
Noel Whelan has heralded West Brom striker Hal Robson-Kanu for his upturn in form at a “really important” stage of the season.
The former Leeds United forward and Championship expert, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, insists the 30-year-old has always had the desired work rate but he needed to add more goals to his game.
After scoring once in 13 Championship games, the Welsh international has now netted three goals in as many matches after the 1-0 defeat against Wigan Athletic on Saturday afternoon.
Whelan says that the frontman has worked his socks off up front this season and that he is finally getting his rewards in front of goal.
Whelan told Football Insider: “As a striker, you want to put a shift in, you want to do a job for the team defensively and bring others into play.
“But first and foremost, there’s no better feeling than when you’ve put a shift in, you’ve done everything that the manager wants of you tactically but you’re also getting the goals.

“He’s in a really good run of form at the minute, his confidence his sky-high, he’s always a handful, they probably wanted more goals from him and at the minute, he’s producing, he’s getting these goals.
“It’s coming at a really important time right now. A striker in form like that, at this stage of the season, it’s going to make it very, very difficult for the rest of the teams below them.”
Robson-Kanu has netted a total of 10 Championship goals in 30 appearances this season, six of those coming in a nine-game spell between October and December.
Slaven Bilic also has Charlie Austin and Kenneth Zohore to call on up front at the Hawthorns.
In other West Brom news, one Baggies star has blown Michael Brown away with his “unplayable” performances.
