'Absolutely brilliant...Exceptional' - Exclusive: Whelan drools after texting Leeds player

Noel Whelan has revealed that Leeds United star Stuart Dallas was “very humble” after the former striker named the Northern Ireland ace his player of the season.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the ex-Whites ace revealed he texted the 29-year-old to tell him he had been his standout player, with the versatile winger insisting there were others who deserved the honour more.

Dallas has been a mainstay for Marcelo Bielsa this season, featuring in every single Championship game in a variety of positions.

Having seen the former Brentford man fill in at left-back, right-back and centre-midfield for the Whites, Whelan insists no one has performed better than him this campaign.

Whelan told Football Insider: “I don’t think anybody could take that left-back role – or a right-back role – off Stuart Dallas with the way he’s played this season.

“Honestly, he’s been my player of the season, I texted him that and said that – again, very humble in that and (responded to say) he thought that other people were.

“Look, he’s been absolutely brilliant, true professional, led by example this season, got on with his job, been exceptional in whatever position he’s been put into and he’s just been an integral part of this side this season.”

Dallas has played a total of 38 times across all competitions this season and has failed to play the full 90 minutes all but twice in the Championship.

He has made 184 appearances for the Whites, as well as picking up 39 caps for Northern Ireland to date.
