Exclusive: Wigan Athletic to seal Christian Saydee signing from Portsmouth
Wigan Athletic have agreed a deal to sign striker Christian Saydee from Portsmouth, sources have told Football Insider.
After starting his senior career with Bournemouth, the 23-year-old joined Pompey from Shrewsbury Town in the summer of 2023, helping them win promotion from League One in his debut season with the club.
John Mousinho’s side then secured a 16th place finish in the Championship during the 2024/25 campaign, five points clear of the bottom three.
In total, Saydee has scored seven goals and provided three assists in 73 appearances in all competitions for Portsmouth, but he is now set to move on after entering the final year of his contract at Fratton Park.

Christian Saydee set to agree Portsmouth exit
Earlier this week, Football Insider reported that both Wigan and Plymouth are interested in signing Saydee, and the Latics have won the race for his signature.
It is understood that Ryan Lowe‘s side have now agreed a deal to sign the striker, who is set to finalise a deal on Wednesday (18 June).
The Latics have already signed midfielder Fraser Murray on a bosman deal from Scottish Premiership side Kilmarnock in this transfer window.
However, they did miss out on the signing of striker Sam Dalby to Bolton Wanderers, as reported by Football Insider.

Wigan Athletic eyeing 2025/26 improvement
This season, Wigan finished 15th in the League One table, ten points clear of the relegation zone, and they will be aiming to climb the table in the coming campaign, in Ryan Lowe’s first full season in charge.
Plymouth were only relegated from the Championship this season and have just appointed former Watford boss Tom Cleverley as their new manager at Home Park.
Winning the race to sign Saydee may therefore be seen as something of a coup for the Latics as they look to put together a more competitive squad for the coming campaign.
They will though also face a fight to keep certain players between now and the transfer closing at the start of September.
As has been reported by Football Insider, both Norwich City and Stockport County are keen to sign left-back K’Marni Miller from Wigan this summer.
