Exclusive: Wolves set sights on signing Man City and Everton stars in January

Wolves have set their sights on both Kalvin Phillips and Dwight McNeil ahead of the January transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

The Midlands side will explore both loan and permanent deals as they try to secure the Premier League duo.

Last month, Football Insider revealed that Phillips is set to leave Manchester City in January in search of game time.

McNeil has also struggled for minutes in recent times and has yet to start in the Premier League for Everton this season.

Rob Edwards eyes Premier League experience

Rob Edwards was appointed as the new Wolves manager last week, with the former Middlesbrough boss replacing Vitor Pereira at Molineux.

The Old Gold sit rock bottom of the Premier League and are eight points adrift of 17th placed Burnley, meaning Edwards has a huge job on his hands to guide them to safety.

With the likes of McNeil and Phillips on his January shortlist, the 42-year-old is clearly eager to add some top-flight nous to his ranks.

Phillips helped Leeds United survive relegation to the Championship in the 2021-22 campaign, so has previous experience of avoiding the drop.

The same goes for McNeil, who played a big part for Everton as they narrowly stayed up in the Premier League in both the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons.

With their top-flight status is hanging in the balance, sources say that the hierarchy at the Midlands side are willing to fund new arrivals.

Wolves were the second-highest spenders in the Premier League behind Manchester City last January, having backed Vitor Pereira with three new signings.
